They forgot to mention that good job is really boring and you’re too damn broke to afford much of anything because #studentloans.

There’s a gazillion ways to make money

What the gurus won’t tell you is that making money is A LOT of work. I’m going to bet you thought of these ways to try to make more money:


Blogging. It’s a super easy side hustle but it can take YEARS before you start making serious cash. That’s not because your blog is bad, that’s just how the Google algorithm works.


Coaching. It seems like everyone is a coach of some sort these days doesn’t it? If you have a skill people want to learn, coaching is a great gig, but getting started is the hardest part. You might spend hundreds if not thousands of hours pursuing leads before you make your first sale. 


Influencing. Instagram has turned us all into human advertisements. First you have to attract 10,000 followers to your account before you’ll even be considered influencer worthy. Even then most brands want to work with the bigger influencers ya know? It just seems like you have to put in a lot of work to pitch $50 post packages.


There’s nothing wrong with any of these side hustles. But after a while, they might become as equally unfun as your current job.

The best way to make money is to start from what you already have

Right before COVID started I made the gutsy decision to leave my 9to5 job in Washington, DC and move back home to Upstate New York. (Good timing though, eh?)


My parents let me declutter their basement and after a few months, I turned decades of clutter into $5,000. 


One of the COOLEST things I found in the basement was my dad’s old GI Joe doll collection. 


As the auction came to a close we gathered around the computer to watch it end.


$250…


Then $339…


We thought it was going to sell at $475 but…


In the final seconds a bid came in for $555!



Now, you might not have a box of vintage GI Joe dolls from the 1960s hanging out in your basement but you probably have other stuff.




According to eBay’s own research:


"Americans have an average of 36 household items that can be resold, with $3,675 worth of value sitting in those goods." (eBay Recommerce Report)




Selling old, unwanted things around your home is the easiest side hustle you could start right now. You just have to get started.
